The Bicultural Iowa Writers’ Fellowship launched in 2018. Inaugural BIWF fellows were Chuy Renteria, Mexican-American from West Liberty; Melissa Palma, Filipino-American from Waterloo; and Sadagat Aliyeva, Azerbaijani-American from Des Moines. Their book, We the Interwoven: An Anthology of Bicultural Iowa, was published in the summer of 2018 and sold out of its first printing in two months. Currently over 60 Public libraries carry the book.

  • Selected as a presenter for the Examined Life Conference— the Intersection of Writing & Medicine
