The Iowa Writers' House is honored to announce that on May 5th at 12:30pm, We The Interwoven: An Anthology of Bicultural Iowa will be featured at the Blue Met Festival at Hotel 10 in Montréal, Canada.
We The Interwoven is the first collection of stories of immigrants and bicultural citizens living in the American Midwest. At a time when the United States is wrestling with great division around issues of immigration and migration, this book comes out of the heartland, where the lines are blurred, where the leading political votes are cast while undocumented farm workers live next door, where Christian values come face to face with Good Samaritan needs, and where the conservative American work ethic and the immigrant’s American dream have more in common than most realize. Nominated by the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights as a ‘One Community, One Book’ selection, this fascinating collection features debut authors Chuy Renteria (Mexican- American), Sadagat Aliyeva (Azeri-American), and Melissa Palma (Filipino-American) and an America shown to us through new eyes.
This event is free to the public, and will involve a selection of wines sponsored by the IWH.
