Writing, Like Pie, Is Meant To Be Shared

In this unique mash-up, acclaimed author and famed pie maker, Beth M. Howard, will incorporate a pie class into the writing workshop as a way to encourage students to face and overcome their fears, let go of perfection, and gain the confidence to share what they’ve created. “Pie is a metaphor,” says Howard, a memoirist and essayist known for her deeply personal storytelling. As her experience of living and writing in the American Gothic house gained a national following, her book, Making Piece, won hearts across the country. “Pie is like life," says Howard. "It is isn’t perfect and it is meant to be shared.”

In this workshop, students will create both their own rich, enticing essays, as well as fruity, flaky pastries. Writers of all levels can learn from Beth's signature style in both storytelling and the kitchen. Participants will come away infused with courage to tell their stories, new writing, and of course with their very own American pie.
